据外媒报道，大英图书馆将其档案中的报纸副本数字化的项目将发布一百万页报纸作为免费资源。英国报纸档案馆（BNA）拥有超过4400万页报纸，主要是英国和爱尔兰的报纸，时间范围为1699年到2009年，占大英图书馆所有报纸的不到10% 。目前，每月约有50万页被添加到BNA中。

目前，访问该服务需要订阅，因为这有助于资助扫描和记录添加到在线档案的每份报纸的费用。不过，为了向研究人员开放更多的档案，大英图书馆已经免费发布了100万页报纸的数字版本，并承诺在接下来的四年里每年再发布100万页。因此，大英图书馆总共将发布500万页的旧报纸文章的数字版本。
